Reading is often considered a solitary thing, but it doesn’t have to be. We want to show you can build a community around literacy by providing a space where anyone can fall in love with writing and books.

Writing Club
Sept. 18, 2025 | 5:30-7 p.m. | FREE
Join us for our writing sprints! Writing begins at 5:30 p.m. sharp and we use the pomodoro method to keep us focused. This means we write for 25 minutes, take a 5 minute break and then write for another 25 minutes. At 6:30 there's an optional half hour during which you can have others critique your writing, get feedback or just chat with other Charlotteans about writing, reading and more. Space is limited so please RSVP to reserve your spot - and remember to cancel your spot if you can’t come.

Book Signing with Local Author Nicole Zelniker
Sept. 18, 2025 | 12-3 | FREE
Stop by our shop to meet Carborro, N.C. author Nicole Zelniker and purchase a copy of her debut young adult novel, “All I Know So Far.” The story follows a nonbinary teen in their senior year of high school as they’ve been shipped off to live with their closeted gay brother amidst their parents divorce. Copies will be available for purchase!

Silent Book Club
Sept. 21, 2025 | 9:30-11 a.m. | FREE
With Silent Book Club, you show up with whatever book you're currently reading, and you sit and read it. It's that simple. From 9:30-10 folks arrive, get food and drinks and chat with each other. Then from 10-11 a.m. we read. Then at 11 a.m. we open our shop for the day! We strongly recommend bringing a chair or blanket to sit on! Seating goes quick! Please note that we meet in the Kinship East lobby (110 Razades Way).

Join us for our in-person and virtual book club meetup! Our September book club is Tender Is The Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica, a dystopian horror novel.
The story follows a man who works at a local meat processing plant during a time when animal meat has become poisonous to humans. Come by on October 11 to swap books and plants/propagations with That’s Novel Books and Grow! Please read the rules for each swap below.
Book swap rules:
📚 Bring up to 5 books, and take no more than the number you brought
📚 Please bring books you would be excited to receive. This is not an opportunity to offload the dusty, moldy books from your great uncle four times removed. Be mindful and be kind
📚 Do not come without books and then take a bunch. That’s just a jerk move
Plant swap rules:
🪴 houseplants only (no outdoor/garden plants)
🪴 all plant must be PEST FREE!!
🪴 please stay away from plants we all have. (ex golden pothos, heart leaf philo...you get the drift.)
🪴 no outside vendors. this is a plant only swap. try to refrain from pre-trades...let’s make new friends!
🪴 event open for plant lovers of all types + levels!No RSVP is required - just show up!
