Hey everyone, my name is Alyssa!

…and I’m a quintessential book nerd.

I was that kid that checked out stacks of books from the library, only to return a few days later having read them all already. I was that child who ran into countless objects while walking and reading at the same time. And I was that teen who competed on her school’s “Battle of the Books” team, which is where you read a book and then go up against another team answering trivia about the story (hmm… maybe we should start one in Charlotte?) Anyway…

Why open That’s Novel?

Two years ago at the start of 2020, I got the opportunity to achieve a lifelong dream of mine: open a used bookstore in the heart of Charlotte. We held our grand opening party on February 28, 2020, and then promptly closed our doors 2 weeks later due to the pandemic. We’ve hung on, though, and we’re continuing to grow.

I always wanted to open a bookstore because I thought it meant I would just sit in a shop and read all day. Over two years in I can tell you that is not the reality of running a bookstore, but it’s okay because now my goals are different. I want to keep this bookstore open so I can help others discover their love of books, so I can connect them with other book nerds in Charlotte and beyond, and so that I can geek out about books with all my fellow readers out there.
